What a payment link is, and how to send one
6 minute read
A payment link is a single page carrying your business name, one amount and one button. You send it to your customer in a message, they pay from their browser with mada, a card or Apple Pay, and the payment appears in your ledger immediately. Your customer needs no app and no account, and you need no website.
What is actually behind the link
Creating a payment link creates a payment request with a fixed amount and one description saying what the customer is paying for. The link is a short address like paywithnal.com/pay/8fk2ma, and behind it is a hosted page showing your business name, the amount and the available payment methods.
The card fields on that page are not ours — they belong to the licensed payment gateway. The card number never reaches a Nalpay server, which means storing it and protecting it are not your problem either.
Once the payment succeeds the link becomes paid, and the transaction is recorded with its amount, fees, method and the customer it belongs to.
When a link beats a bank transfer
A transfer is free, and it turns your business into manual accounting: a receipt screenshot in WhatsApp, a sender name that does not match the customer, an amount short by twenty riyals for no stated reason, and a month-end reconciliation between a bank statement and a list of orders.
- The amount is fixed in advance, so SAR 480 never arrives where SAR 500 was agreed.
- The status is known the moment it changes: awaiting payment, paid or failed — no waiting for a screenshot.
- Paying by card takes seconds on a phone; a transfer means opening a banking app and typing an IBAN.
- Every payment has a full trail: who paid, when, what was deducted, and when it settles.
- A refund is one action in the dashboard, not a reverse transfer you address by hand.
Creating one and sending it
- 1In the dashboard open Payment links, then New link.
- 2Enter the amount and a description your customer understands at a glance: “Photo session · first instalment” beats “Invoice 41”.
- 3Attach a customer if you want the payment kept in their record, and set an expiry if the offer is genuinely time-limited.
- 4Copy the link and send it in the WhatsApp thread, a message or an email. Nothing stops you posting it in a bio or a story.
- 5Follow the status on the links page: who opened and paid, and who has not yet.
The same thing is available through the API or MCP if you are integrating Nalpay with your own software or a coding agent — the same objects and the same fields.
After your customer pays
The payment appears under Payments with its status and its fees. Fees are deducted before settlement, and the net amount is what reaches your verified IBAN.
Settlements are scheduled three times a week — Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. The settlements page shows gross, fees, VAT and net for each run, so there is nothing to recalculate.
If you need to return the money, a refund is full or partial from the payment itself, and the result is recorded against it.
What makes a link actually get paid
- Send it in the same conversation where you agreed the work, not in another channel; context is half the persuasion.
- Write the description in the customer's language: what they are buying and when they get it.
- One link, one amount. Two links in one message postpone the decision.
- For a large amount, split it into a deposit and a balance as two separate links.
- Set an expiry when the offer really is time-limited, not as a pressure tactic.
Nalpay does not send automatic WhatsApp or email reminders today. Following up stays with you, and the link is ready to copy and resend at any time.
A payment link or a subscription
A payment link is one payment for one amount. If your customer will pay you the same amount every month or every quarter, what you want is a subscription: it collects the first payment, saves the card at the gateway and renews on schedule without you asking again.
Common questions
- Does my customer need an app or an account to pay?
- No. They open the link in their browser and pay with the methods on the page. No sign-up, no download, no account.
- Which payment methods appear on the page?
- mada, Visa and Mastercard, and Apple Pay when it is enabled for your account. The page shows what is actually available at the moment of payment.
- Do I need a commercial registration to create a payment link?
- Not to try it: test mode is available the moment you create an account, with no documents at all. Taking real money requires account verification, which accepts a commercial registration or, for eligible individuals, a freelance document.
- When do I receive the money after my customer pays?
- Settlements are scheduled on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, and are transferred to the verified IBAN on your account.
- Does a link expire on its own?
- Only if you gave it an expiry when you created it. Without one it stays valid until it is paid or you cancel it.
Try it before any paperwork
Create an account and start in test mode in minutes. No card and no approval to create a link and pay it.
